You may have noticed that a lot of hip hop news sites read like police blotters. At BPM we try to stay away from that type of coverage. This isn’t because we want to sugarcoat hip hop culture (although we do try and smash some of the common misconceptions) but because most of this news just isn’t newsworthy. It’s not like we see daily headlines like, “OH MY GOD LIL WAYNE KILLS A BITCH!” No, we see a constant stream of reports on rappers who failed to pay child support or got in a scuffle outside a club. Not that these aren’t important issues to all involved parties, but this is a hip hop site, not a celebrity news magazine.
With that said, I decided to go ahead and run the Busta Rhymes story for a number of reasons, the biggest being that great, quirky headline I came up with. Also, Busta seems like a generally upstanding citizen. Just a hunch. Finally, it involves the English and that is always nice.
Mr. Rhymes was denied access into the UK yesterday on his way to play a charity gig at Royal Albert Hall. He was held at the London Airport for “unresolved convictions in the USA” before a High Court judge ruled his detention unlawful and ordered that he be released. The charges date back to some shenanigans Busta got himself into in NYC three years back when he assaulted his driver and an innocent fan who spat on his car. Oh, Busta! Why?
It remains to be seen whether or not Busta Rhymes will perform at the benefit tonight. Or was it last night? God damn Greenwich Mean Time! The show did pick up Ludacris at the last moment just in case Busta can’t make it.
