Lil Wayne pullin' a T.I.
I think going to jail for trying to buy guns is probably the best thing Lil Wayne can do right now.
T.I., while he was doing his pre-jail publicity tour, became one of the most likable guys in hip hop. Every time he went on TV to promote Paper Trail, he was all smiles and jokes. He reflected on his jail sentence all over Paper Trail. Of all the big hip hop stars, he seems the most stable.
Lil Wayne, on the other hand, is in the midst of a codeine-fueled blur through his late 20s that I was guessing would kill him by age 27. So if he gets a year when he’s sentenced in February he’ll be cut off from codeine for most of the year. It’ll give everyone a break from Lil Wayne – there’s nothing interesting about a Lil Wayne guest spot anymore. And he’ll get to take a breath. Shit, given how many mixtapes he puts out, that Tha Carter IV and Rebirth are both slated to come out before the end of the year, not to mention the recent release of No Ceilings, he’s at high risk of a burnout.
And besides, he was just buying guns. Not like he killed someone.
