Atlanta underground rapper Jax passed away last Monday. Jax, whose real name was Chris Thurston, collapsed and died on stage while performing live. Cardiac arrest has been named as the cause of death.
Jax was well known in Atlanta’s underground scene. He was signed to Smokin’ Needles Records, the label run by Phife Dawg and DJ Rasta Root.
“I just don’t cater to anyone like that,” Phife said on Rasta Root’s XM Radio show Thursday. “I used to kid him and call him Ghostface Jr., with his whole swagger and the way he attacked the tracks.”
Thurston is survived by his mother, a brother, and a wife he married just a month before his death. Funeral services were held yesterday.
