Run DMC to enter the Rock Hall of Fame!
Billboard is reporting that Run-DMC is set to become the second hip hop act of all time inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. OK, bitch about the hall if you want (they didn’t induct Rush, waaaaaaah). But it’s a milestone, the closest thing to an “establishment” that popular music has. It kind of serves as a generational mile marker, proving the diminishing influence of the old coots who bitch about how “they’re just talking! that’s not music!” It’s nice to be legit.
Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five were the first inductees to the Rock Hall last year. Curiously, Run-DMC were honored at the first edition of VH1’s Hip Hop Honors, and Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five were honored at the second. This was Run-DMC’s first year of eligibility, as a group is only eligible 25 years after their first recording, and Run-DMC’s debut self-titled album was released in 1984.

I commend the Rock Hall for their apparent openness to hip hop artists. It’s nice to see.
